They were
celebrating in the streets of Veedersburg Saturday night. The Fountain Central
Mustangs returned home with the Crawfordsville Sectional championship. They
emerged on top in a very close competition, edging South Vermillion 242-233 for
the title. Third place Crawfordsville had 225 points.

It was an
impressive performance by Fountain Central. The Mustangs advanced nine wrestlers
to next week’s regional competition including four champions. Freshman Joey
Engle won the title at 119lbs. running his season record to 31-1. Not to be
outdone, fellow freshman Eli Moore took top honors at 125lbs. Junior Scott
Moore took the crown at 171lbs. and improved his overall mark to 26-1. Finally,
sophomore Taylor Minick won the championship at 215lbs.The reward for Fountain
Central is dubious. The Mustangs earned a berth against Carmel in next week’s
North Montgomery regional. Indianapolis Cathedral is also in that field.

Four other
Wabash River Conference teams competed at Crawfordsville. North Vermillion advanced
five grapplers to the next level while Rockville pushed through three and
Covington one.
